Question:
Dear Jarrett,
Extending Remote Start Can I Extend My Model Year 2019/2020/2021 Remote Start Time? - Fogged up in Fairmont
Answer:
Many of our new 2019, 2020 and 2021 push button start GM Trucks and SUVs now offer an extended remote start run time of 15 minutes and 15 minutes vs the old 10 minute / 10 minute remote start time!
Simply press the key fob LOCK button, and then immediately after, press and hold the REMOTE START button for about 4 seconds.
If you wish to have your vehicle run longer than 15 minutes, just wait at least 30 seconds, and then repeat the instructions above, and now the vehicle will run for a total of 30 minutes! You no longer need to be there in between to re-start your vehicle, which can also be hard on starters, alternators and batteries
Be aware that safety guidelines exist to limit vehicles operating for extended periods unmonitored, so the maximum time a vehicle will run with a remote key fob present (without moving out of "Park") is 30 minutes, and, 20 minutes when no key fob is left in the vehicle.
Due to this, being able to remote start the vehicle for a total of 30 minutes is much more convenient and secure, as the vehicle cannot be driven away while in the remote start state.
